There’s an old joke about the long time agent who brags about having 20 years of experience.

And the retort by the smart, young (and successful) agent who quietly thinks, “No. He’s got more like one year of experience. 20 times.”

This was, arguably, one of the great ‘lifestyle’ businesses. Once you learned it, and got your book of business, you could very well behave the same way…year after year after year.

No longer.

As the world we live in changes – and consumers continue their rapid pace of change – we must keep changing. And that means we must keep learning.

Not just you. Everyone on the team.

One way to look at the maturing process of today’s retail agency or brokerage is to examine how well the firm does:

  • In the 4 Stages of Marketing. (Is it executing in the many, reliable ways to Attract, Convert, Optimize and Retain clients?)
  • And, in the 3 ‘levels’ of performance: 1) is it fully exploiting available technology? 2) does the staff perform effectively, with strategy and tactic, at each of the 4 stages? And 3) how deeply is the full marketing process embedded and ritualized in the culture?
